The short fiction „White Bell” is a portrait of city Riga in the 1960’s. It turned out to be a turning point in Latvian cinematography — filmed using some of the feature film techniques, it nevertheless became a corner stone of the Riga school of poetic documentary.
A groundbreaking film that began a new era in the history of Latvian documentary cinema. This poetic visual essay that follows a little girl in the Riga of 1960s, launched a new school, the so-called Riga poetic documentary, which, in a way, is a paradox: the film relies, in part, on non-documentary elements. This film is included in the Latvian Cultural Canon, read more about it on the homepage.
The trilogy of documentary film classic „Beginning”, „Construction” and „Worker” shows the poetic beauty of labour and human power on different construction sites. As an extra feature, the DVD includes a commented interview of Uldis Brauns, where he talks with Ivars Seleckis over his films and the time.
