Loneliness, disillusionment and the experience of first love reveal the character of Raya, a 17-year-old living in rural Latvia with her grandmother and her little brother Robis. A staggering turn of events shakes up their lives, and the young girl must come to decisions that even a grown woman would find difficult to make. In his strong debut feature, director Renārs Vimba carefully handles the delicate theme of coming-of-age and accepts the challenge of telling the story through the eyes of a young girl.

Renārs Vimba’s debute feature was premierered at the Berlin IFF and earned the Crystal Bear award at the Generation/14plus competition thus becoming the first film from Latvia that has received this prestigues prize. “Mellow Mud” has been received positively by critics, with the “Hollywood Reporter” praising the talented young leads and calling the film a “delicate drama about an often anguished time of life, all handled with sensitivity”.
It has travelled the festivals arround the world since – to Europe, USA, South America, Island, South Corea, Russia and else, and received awards at Ciprus, Germany, Russia, Austria and Luxemburg film festivals.
